Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) once again achieved accreditation “A” in 2017, after the visitation on 11 to 12 December 2017 by the Assessor Team of National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN PT). Not only that, the accreditation A achieved by UMY is also experiencing a significant increase of score, which is increased to 369 based on Accreditation System of Higher Education Online (SAPTO) which is also the first time followed by UMY. Information obtained from the accreditation scores obtained by UMY through the official website of SAPTO BAN PT.
Rector of UMY, Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, when interviewed in his office on Thursday (4/1). stated that, in 2012 UMY obtained the value of Accreditation of Higher Education Institution (AIPT) “A” with score 363 by using Borang Offline accreditation system. “Then in the year 2017 UMY follow the online accreditation system or SAPTO, which demands to be more serious in the management of universities,” he said.
The SAPTO system itself came into effect in mid-2017 which is considered more competitive because in the assessment process, a university is required to go through four stages: desk evaluation, first validator, visitation, second validator, then enter the final meeting of BAN PT. “This is what distinguishes between the accreditation system through the Offline Borang with SAPTO. If through an offline form system, the assessment only consists of two stages, namely the assessment of desk evaluation and visitation. That’s why if through this SAPTO system, the online form can not be simply arranged in order to qualify for a divisit. But must really make and prepare it as much as possible. Because usually the initial value of the desk evaluation has a great influence on the visitation process and the final value of the validator before finally entering the final meeting of BAN PT, “Gunawan explained.
Gunawan add a comment that online accreditation form prepared by UMY takes up to 1.5 years. However, improvements in the quality of study programs, research and active cooperation with international institutions have been conducted by UMY since the last five years.
“Firstly, in the last five years UMY has succeeded in improving undergraduate study program by 45.50 percent, which is marked by the increase of 10 accredited Prodi A. From the total of 23 Prodi S1, 16 of which 70 percent have been accredited A in 2017. This success also supported by the absence of an accredited Prodi C. Similar improvements also occur in the Graduate study program. Of the 9 Postgraduate Programs, which are 7 master’s and 2 doctoral programs, two of them have also been accredited A, namely Master Program of Governmental Science (MIP) and Islamic Political Doctor Program, “he explained.
Then the second, added Gunawan again, in the last three years, the average research fund obtained and used UMY is equal to 21.67 billion. In addition, scientific papers in the form of Scopus indexed article publications also continue to increase every year. Recorded from 2014 to 2016, the number of publications in internationally reputable and indexed journals Scopus increased to 87.93 percent. “And thirdly, active cooperation with foreign institutions reached 94 cooperation or experienced an increase of 79.79 percent from 2013 to 2016. Other recent achievements, UMY successfully entered into the network of ERASMUS + program from the European Union that facilitate the improvement of quality and academic activities for lecturers and students, “he added.
